Lead Times

The truth is, good furniture takes time.

Every Relic Modern™  piece is built by me, start to finish, in my Minneapolis studio — no warehouse, no assembly line. I select and mill the lumber, join, sand, and finish each piece by hand. That care takes time, but it's also why the wait exists: it's the difference between something pulled off a shelf and something built for you, by hand, meant to last generations.

Reviews of the Plant Stand

Never thought a plant stand could add so much style to my house.
Erika
Very high quality and exceeded my expectations! Love the mid-century modern look and the color of the wood.
Kayla
Very well made and beautiful. Not too clunky... delicate but strong and holds my heavy ceramic planter without a problem.

About this Piece

A reversible mid-century modern plant stand sized to fit pots from 4" to 12", with a walnut face and exposed Baltic birch layers along every edge. The form has the presence of small-format wood sculpture — at home on a shelf, a mantel, or a windowsill, the plant takes the spotlight while the stand earns its place under it..

The five sizes — 4", 6", 8", 10", and 12" — fit anything from a small succulent to a fiddle-leaf fig. Flip it one way for more lift on long legs; flip it the other way for a low cradle that hugs the pot. The reversibility isn't a gimmick — it's the design.

Finished with a hand-rubbed oil and wax blend, the piece has a matte, warm look that enhances the natural grain of the walnut.

Materials

Built from a single sheet of 13-layer Baltic birch. The layered edges are left exposed as a signature detail.

(01) Wood: ¾" Baltic birch (13-layer) with walnut face. The walnut face is built from two halves with grain matched across the joint; grain direction may run horizontally or vertically, and photos on this page show vertical grain.

(02) Finish: pure tung oil, boiled linseed oil, beeswax, carnauba wax — a durable, water-resistant matte finish that feels like silky-smooth wood

Product FAQ

(01) How long does shipping take? This piece is made in batches and ready to ship from Minneapolis. Current lead time is listed in the box above the Add to Cart button. See Shipping, Pickup & Returns for details.

(02) Will the wood color change over time? Yes. The walnut face will deepen and take on warmer, reddish tones over the first year or two. This is a natural characteristic of the species and part of what makes the piece feel alive. The hand-rubbed oil and wax finish supports this patina rather than sealing it off.

(03) How do I care for this piece? A damp cloth is all that's needed for cleaning — no furniture polishes. The piece can be refreshed with a bit of furniture wax when it feels dry. Additional details are on the FAQ page.

(04) Does the walnut grain run a specific direction? The walnut face on each plant stand is built from two halves, with the grain matched across the joint. The grain direction may run horizontally or vertically depending on the piece. The photos on this page show vertical grain.

(05) Does this require assembly? The plant stand ships in two interlocking pieces that slide together. The fit is tight by design — the friction is what holds the stand rigid and keeps it from collapsing if it's bumped or kicked. If it feels too tight to seat, a small amount of furniture wax, olive oil, or any food-safe wood oil applied to the joint surfaces will let the pieces seat smoothly without loosening the fit over time.

(06) Can I order a custom size? The plant stand is offered in the five sizes shown — 4", 6", 8", 10", and 12". Custom sizes aren't available for this piece.

(07) Is the pot included? No — the plant stand is sold on its own. The sizes listed (4", 6", 8", 10", 12") refer to the diameter of the pot the stand is built to fit.

(08) Can it hold a heavy plant? Yes. The interlocked Baltic birch construction is rigid enough to support a fully grown plant in a heavy ceramic pot at every size.

(09) Will moisture from the pot affect the plant stand? No. As long as the pot has a drip tray or saucer underneath to catch water, the plant stand will hold up fine. Baltic birch is built for stability — alternating layers resist the warping that solid wood is prone to as humidity changes — and the hand-rubbed oil and wax finish gives the surface real water resistance. A wet ring left sitting on the stand for hours isn't ideal, but normal watering with a tray underneath isn't a concern.

(10) Can I use this for outdoor plants? Indoor use only. Wood expands and contracts with humidity changes, and outdoor moisture exposure will damage the finish over time.
