Lead Times

The truth is, good furniture takes time.

Every Relic Modern™  piece is built by me, start to finish, in my Minneapolis studio — no warehouse, no assembly line. I select and mill the lumber, join, sand, and finish each piece by hand. That care takes time, but it's also why the wait exists: it's the difference between something pulled off a shelf and something built for you, by hand, meant to last generations.

Justin's work is perfection!
Sarah P.
Justin was easy to work with and we love the end product.
Meghann M.
The final product is absolutely stunning with attention to detail in the joining and continuation of the grain, plus little touches like soft-closing drawers. It truly is a piece of art!

About this Piece

The dresser is a four-drawer tallboy case built around a continuous vertical silhouette — the side panels extend straight through to the floor as integrated legs, each foot finished with a subtle taper that lightens the base without interrupting the line. Two small drawers on top, two large below, with curved Italian-made satin-gold drawer pulls whose profile softens an otherwise strictly geometric piece. A walnut or maple face carries across the front; the signature exposed Baltic birch layered edges run down the sides. Built as a minimalist piece from the Relic Modern™ collection, designed to anchor a bedroom alongside the matching bed and nightstands or to stand on its own in a guest room or home office.

Underneath, a 13-layer Baltic birch core with solid maple dovetailed drawer boxes and soft-close Blum® under-mount slides on every drawer — the construction that makes the piece stay stable through the seasons the way solid wood furniture can't, and makes the drawers still slide cleanly a decade in. The exposed Baltic birch layers at the edges of the case are the signature detail that runs through the collection, and the reason no two pieces look exactly the same.

Finished with a hand-rubbed oil and wax blend, the piece has a matte, warm look that enhances the natural grain of the walnut or maple.

Materials

Built from 13-layer solid wood Baltic birch with a walnut or maple face — a stable, sustainable core that doesn't move with the seasons the way solid wood can. The layered Baltic birch edges are left exposed as a signature detail and a nod to the designers of the mid-century era. Handmade in Minneapolis.

Product FAQ

(01) How long until the piece ships? This piece is handmade to order in Minneapolis. Current lead time is listed in the box above the Add to Cart button. See Shipping, Pickup & Returns for details.

(02) Will the wood color change over time? Yes. The walnut face will deepen and take on warmer, reddish tones over the first year or two, and the maple face will warm into a deeper honey color — both are natural characteristics of the species and part of what makes the piece feel alive. The hand-rubbed oil and wax finish supports this patina rather than sealing it off.

(03) How do I care for this piece? Use coasters, wipe up spills, and keep rough objects off the surface. A damp cloth is all that's needed for cleaning — no furniture polishes. The piece can be refreshed with a bit of furniture wax when it feels dry. Additional details are on the FAQ page.

(04) Can I see a wood sample before ordering? Yes. A wood sample of the Baltic birch with the chosen face — walnut or maple — and the oil and wax finish is available through the shop.

(05) Does this require assembly? No. The dresser ships fully assembled and ready to use on delivery or pickup.

(06) Can I customize this piece? Yes — some customizations are possible, including depth and hardware. Reach out before ordering to discuss what's feasible.

(07) Can I see this piece in person? Yes. The Dresser is on display at the Minneapolis showroom, alongside the full furniture collection. See showroom hours or book an appointment.

Mid-century modern isn't a trend — it's a discipline. Clean lines, reasonable proportions, and modest, organic shapes. At Relic Modern™, that means stripping every design down to its essential form and building it from high-quality Baltic birch with walnut or maple faces, finished with a hand-rubbed oil and wax blend that lets the wood speak for itself.
