Reviews of the Custom Vanity Cabinet

Absolutely love both of our new bathroom vanities. The quality and craftsmanship are impeccable. Highly recommend Relic Modern for custom pieces! They came out exactly as I had pictured it in my head before embarking on the actual design.
Angela M.
Besides the great quality of his work, Justin is amazing to work with. So responsive and always making sure I was happy with the way things were coming along. It is a beautiful piece and I'm very pleased with it.
Elaine W.
I can't say enough good things about Justin's work. It's exactly what we envisioned and was worth every penny. I would have Justin make every piece of furniture for our house if we could.
Allison

About this Piece

A minimalist, mid-century modern vanity built to the dimensions and layout of the bathroom it’s going into. The three variant to the left — 24” single, 40” floating single, 60” double — are reference points for pricing and potential styles, but most vanities that leave the shop are customized one-of-a-kind pieces: widths and depths adjusted to the space, drawers or doors or a mix, exposed Baltic birch layered edges or solid-wood edging, legs, wall mount, or a solid base, wood of your choice including walnut, maple, white oak, and others. The form is designed to carry the room without overpowering it. With Relic Modern, you'll get a custom design tailored to your exact specifications.

The shared DNA stays consistent: minimalist, mid-century modern proportions; quality construction with dovetailed solid maple drawer boxes and soft-close Blum® slides when drawers are included; hand-rubbed oil and wax finish; and attention to the details that make the piece feel considered rather than assembled.

Whatever else the bathroom needs — a matching mirror frame, a freestanding cabinet, a linen tower — can be designed and built alongside.

Materials

Every vanity is built on a stable, layered material — either Baltic birch with a walnut or maple face, or a plywood veneer core wrapped in the species of your choice with solid-wood edging. Plywood construction stays flat and stable through the humidity swings a bathroom sees, where solid-wood cabinets eventually don’t. Handmade in Minneapolis.

(01) Wood: 13-layer Baltic birch with walnut or maple face (with or without exposed layered edges), or veneer-core material with white oak, teak, cherry, ash, or other species and solid-wood edging. Material and edging designed and custom-made per build.

(02) Drawers (when included): solid maple, dovetailed, on soft-close under-mount Blum® slides with six-way adjustments

(03) Hardware (when applicable): pulls or integrated finger pulls to your specification

(04) Finish: pure tung oil, boiled linseed oil, beeswax, carnauba wax — a durable, water-resistant matte finish that feels like silky-smooth wood

Product FAQ

(01) How long until the piece ships? This piece is handmade to order in Minneapolis. Current lead time is listed in the box above the Add to Cart button. See Shipping, Pickup & Returns for details.

(02) How do I care for this piece? A damp cloth is all that’s needed for cleaning — no furniture polishes. Wipe standing water rather than letting it pool. The piece can be refreshed with a bit of furniture wax when it feels dry. Additional details are on the FAQ page.

(03) Can I see a wood sample before ordering? Yes. A wood sample of the Baltic birch with the chosen face — walnut or maple — and the oil and wax finish is available through the shop. Samples in other species are available for custom builds. Contact to request a sample.

(04) Is this built for a bathroom environment, and why not solid wood? Yes. Bathroom vanities are designed and finished for bath conditions. The hand-rubbed tung oil and wax system is water-resistant and holds up to the daily humidity swings a bathroom sees, and the material itself is chosen for the environment. Solid wood boards aren’t used as the cabinet structure because humidity causes real seasonal movement — solid-wood cabinets in bathrooms eventually warp, crack, or separate at glue joints. A layered construction (Baltic birch or veneer-core with solid-wood edging) stays flat and stable through the life of the piece. Solid wood still appears where it belongs — drawer boxes, edging, pulls — where the geometry allows movement without failing.

(05) What’s included, and what is sourced separately? The vanity cabinet itself is included — case, doors, drawers (if specified), hardware, legs or base (if specified), and finish. The vanity top, sink, faucet, fixtures, and plumbing are sourced separately and installed by licensed professionals. Recommendations on trusted sources are available on request.

(06) Can other wood species be used? Yes. White oak, teak, cherry, ash, and other species are regularly used for custom vanities. The cabinet body is always built on a stable layered material (Baltic birch or veneer-core material) — the chosen species appears as face, edging, and visible surfaces. Start a custom design to specify.

(07) Can I see this piece in person? Yes. 24" Single Walnut Vanity (pictured to the left) is on display at the Minneapolis showroom, alongside the full furniture collection. See showroom hours or book an appointment.
